BAUME & MERCIER - The BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition

BAUME & MERCIER LAUNCHES THE BAUME OCEAN LIMITED EDITION

Geneva, October 20, 2020 – BAUME & MERCIER continues its commitment to the planet with the launch of a new model: the BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition. Available in two color versions, blue and green, this new BAUME watch is created in collaboration with Waste Free Oceans (WFO) and SEAQUAL INITIATIVE, two partners that collect plastic debris from the seas to transform them into innovative products. The BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition represents the combination of balanced design, technical expertise and a unique vision of watchmaking that inspires the Brand on a daily basis.

BAUME & MERCIER - The BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition

The BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition is the first creation released since BAUME was integrated as a collection into the Baume & Mercier family in last May. This model symbolizes the Brand’s intention to establish an ecological ethic and to pursue the path that it began in 2018 with BAUME. The collaboration with the NGO WFO and the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE reflects this approach, which combines two key beliefs in the Brand’s development: eco-responsibility and innovation.

“The BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition from the BAUME collection is much more than a product. It symbolizes our determination to support our partners – WFO and SEAQUAL INITATIVE – in their daily combat against marine pollution, and to participate in a global consideration of the Brand’s role in today’s society,” explains David Chaumet, CEO of Baume & Mercier.

AN AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT CASED IN RECYCLED PLASTIC WITHIN AN ALUMINUM SHEATH

BAUME & MERCIER - The BAUME OCEAN Limited EditionThe BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition watch reflects the unique design that brought Baume success, with an off-center crown located at 12 o’clock, and moving in black anodized aluminum. The 42mm case is crafted using a recycled plastic cap produced by the NGO WFO, a historical partner of BAUME; and the case is then sheathed in blue or green anodized aluminum. The cap is made up of 80% recycled plastic gathered by the partner NGO Waste Free Oceans and reinforced with 20% glass fibers to increase its resistance. To craft the case of the BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition in recycled materials, Baume & Mercier worked in close collaboration with WFO, selecting the plastic debris from the ocean that offers the highest performance, durability, and quality.

A DISTINCTIVE DESIGN AND UNIQUE HOUR DISPLAY

BAUME & MERCIER - The BAUME OCEAN Limited EditionIn deep gray, the streamlined dial features a mise en abyme effect created by various layers and finishes. On the strength of its design expertise, BAUME & MERCIER offers an original time display with a central hour hand for a very unique look. In oceanic blue, the aluminum flange creates a strong contrast, bringing even more character to this resolutely eco-responsible timepiece. Driven by a tried-and-true “Swiss Made” self-winding mechanical movement (SW-200), water-resistant to 30 meters, the BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition was assembled in the Baume & Mercier workshops in Les Brenets at the heart of the Swiss Jura, and so it benefits from the Brand’s full expertise.

“We are delighted to pursue the partnership with Baume & Mercier, which began in 2018 with the BAUME project. Throughout this latest partnership period, we worked in close collaboration for the debris-gathering operations, particularly in the Azores, focusing on the development of high-quality products using recycled materials. The BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition watch is the result of this great collaboration, and it heralds other joint projects based on recycling and the circular economy!” explains Bernard Merkx, founder of Waste Free Oceans.

BAUME & MERCIER - The BAUME OCEAN Limited EditionThe BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition watch is equipped with an interchangeable strap in a material called SEAQUAL® YARN, made with upcycled marine plastic. The gray RPET strap features blue or green overstitching, trimmed with black along the edge and lined with natural cork for optimal comfort in wear.

“We are very proud to have BAUME & MERCIER in our community to fight marine litter. SEAQUAL INITIATIVE is a unique collaborative community of individuals, organizations and companies working together to help clean our oceans, raise awareness of the issue of marine litter and highlight those helping to fight it” explains a representative of the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE

ECO-RESPONSIBLE TO THE TIPS OF ITS HANDS

BAUME & MERCIER - The BAUME OCEAN Limited EditionLike its predecessors, the BAUME OCEAN Limited Edition will be presented in a hexagonal package made of recyclable cardboard and lined with recycled polyester felt.
