Q. 4th of 7 parts on estate and period jewelry
A. So far I’ve covered the Victorian and Art Nouveau periods, the next major era, albeit brief was the Edwardian period (1901 – 1910). With the evolution of advanced cutting techniques combined with better quality stones, Diamonds began to become a focal point. The Diamonds were set primarily in platinum with fine details of milgraining. Designers of the day created extremely thin and lightweight pieces with open work and scalloped edges that gave the illusion of fine hand-made lace. Much of the Jewelry from this period was grand and expensive being hand made by some of the finest jewelry houses of the time, a stark contrast to the previous Victorian period.
