Q. What is estate jewelry? Is there a difference between estate and antique jewelry? Is it all valuable |
|
| A. Those are excellent but very involved questions. Over the next 5 weeks I will give you information on antique and estate jewelry and some of the highlights from each important period, i.e. Edwardian, Victorian, and Nouveau.
Estate and Antique jewelry is very fashionable throughout the country and its popularity is growing. The biggest difference in terminology is antique jewelry is at least 100 years old. Estate items may be only 50 years old, 20 years old or 2 years old, as long as they are previously owned. Most older jewelry is very unique with styles and workmanship that cannot be copied today.
